1. DUTY INSTRUCTOR
There must be a Duty Instructor for each Club Activity. The Duty Instructor is
in charge of safety and is responsible for ensuring that the Club Rules and Code
of Conduct are followed. At the Adur Outdoor Activities Centre the Duty Instructor
must have access to a set of keys for the Centre, and must ensure that the terms
of the Club’s contract with the Centre are met.
2. DEFINITION OF A CLUB ACTIVITY
A "Club Activity" is a canoeing related activity organised by the Club, carried
out in accordance with Club Rules and open to Club Members. It must be a regular
session or approved by the Club Event Secretary, Chairman or a Club Senior Instructor.
3. MEMBERS
All members and non-members must report to the Duty Instructor, sign the day sheet,
and pay any subs due before going on the water. Day members must complete the disclaimer
form and write their name, address and age, if under 18, in the day book.
4. CODE OF CONDUCT
The Duty Instructor must be obeyed at all times. Club members must obey the Club’s
Guidelines for Paddlers. Members paddling independently of the main group must comply
with the above, and must tell the Duty Instructor where they are going and time of
return.
7. UNACCOMPANIED JUNIORS
Juniors are welcome, but we cannot accept unaccompanied children under 12. If an
under-12 wishes to paddle, parents or guardian must be prepared to stay around during
the session.
(This rule may be relaxed by the Duty Instructor in specific cases, especially for indoor
pool sessions.)
8. CANOE STORAGE
Canoes may only be stored in the compound by members who have paid for rack space.
All canoes stored must be marked with rack number. Any canoe left in the compound for
six months after membership has expired will be put to use or disposed of by the Club.
The Club and AOAC are not responsible for equipment stored for members.
9. PADDLES
All paddles stored must be marked with the owner’s name.
10. BORROWING
Club members may borrow the Club’s equipment for private activities at their own
risk. The permission of the Club Event Secretary or Chairman must be obtained.
11. BREAKAGES
If a Club Member on a Club Activity, damages equipment belonging to the Club,
they will not be liable to pay for the damage unless they are deemed by the
Committee to have misused the equipment.
