WHAT WE DO

ON THE RIVER

We're canoeists, so we canoe and kayak! This page is about our regular weekly paddles and will give you an idea of what we get up to! We're a very friendly and sociable club. We are also keen on trips away.

Sunday Mornings
Sunday mornings are our main club sessions and happen throughout the year. We meet most Sundays at 10:00am at the Adur Outdoor Activities Centre. These sessions are open to paddlers who are BCU 1 star level or similar. For new paddlers we recommended an introductory course through the Adur Outdoor Activities Centre. On some Sundays the club run trips away. On these days there may not be a club session. Everyone is encouraged to regularly check the club tide and rota page on this website to see if there has been any changes.

The Sunday morning sessions are a mixture of exercise, introductions, a bit of a stretch, teaching paddling techniques, old friends gossiping, getting wet and making the best of the tide and conditions on the day! If you're not a member we ask you to join up as a Day Member for the session.

As of April 2006, some Sunday sessions may be cancelled when there is a club trip running. Please regularly check the club sessions and rota page to see if a particular session is going ahead.

Our local stretch of the river Adur is strongly affected by tides. This means we get a great variety of conditions. If you have not paddled much with the club or on the Adur check out the tide times before coming down on the wrong day!

Tide Times

Summer Tuesday Evenings
During the summer, we also meet on Tuesday nights, at the Adur Outdoor Activities Centre. We usually start at around 6:45pm. These sessions are mostly for people who can paddle reasonably well already (around BCU 2 star standard). These sessions are a little more informal than our Sunday sessions and may well involve getting wet, playing on the low tide features, paddling around the harbour or, if the surf's up, doing some surfing!

INDOOR POOL SESSIONS

Thursday Evenings
We have regular indoor sessions at Wadurs Swimming Pool, Shoreham-by-Sea. The pool is a popular place for learning to roll with or without a paddle, or to simply build up your confidence. During the summer months our pool sessions are run on a monthly basis, but this becomes weekly during the winter months. Full details of pool dates are shown on the Club Session Times on the club's contents page).

We also run boat demo sessions (courtesy of Southwater Water Sports) in the pool on a dedicated boat demo night. Check the events calendar for details of the next boat demo session.

Pool Sessions are open to paddlers of any ability level; novice to advanced. Non-members of the Adur Canoe Club are welcome but are limited to a maximum of 3 visits, after that we will encourage you to join.
